This policy explains how Outdoor Adventure Technologies, LLC ("OAT," "we," "our" or "us") handles information when you use the Hatchpedia website, mobile app and related services (collectively, "Hatchpedia").
Information you provide.
We receive information that you choose to provide, such as your email address and account credentials, subscription and account details, and messages you send through our contact or support features. Please do not include sensitive personal information in a support message unless it is necessary for us to help you.
Information collected when you use Hatchpedia.
Our website and service infrastructure may process technical and usage information such as client IP address, browser or device type, requested pages, timestamps, cookie identifiers, and performance, diagnostic and security data. We use this information to provide, protect, troubleshoot and improve Hatchpedia.
The mobile app stores settings and activity needed for its features on your device, including tour and announcement state, search preferences and subscription-entitlement information. That local information generally remains on your device until you clear it or remove the app.
Location in the mobile app.
If you grant location permission, Hatchpedia can use your current location to narrow insect and fly-pattern results. Current-location matching is performed on your device against the app's catalog; that feature does not send your precise location to OAT. You can decline or revoke location permission in your device settings, although location-based results will then be unavailable.
Payments and subscriptions.
Stripe processes website subscription payments. Payment-card details are provided directly to Stripe; OAT receives information such as customer, subscription, payment-status and transaction identifiers needed to manage the subscription, but not your full card number. Stripe handles that information under its Privacy Policy.
Apple processes subscriptions purchased through the App Store. Apple provides the app and OAT with product, transaction and subscription-status information needed to deliver and verify access. Apple, rather than OAT, handles your App Store payment details.
Apple Ads and App Store subscription measurement.
On supported Apple devices, Hatchpedia obtains a temporary Apple Ads attribution token and sends it through OAT's service to Apple to learn whether the installation resulted from an OAT advertisement. The app also creates a random identifier for the installation and provides the same identifier to Apple with an App Store purchase. Apple returns it with subscription notifications so OAT can relate the installation's advertising source to trial, purchase, renewal, expiration, refund and revocation activity. This identifier is not derived from your device identifiers, email address or Hatchpedia account. The resulting records are pseudonymous, rather than anonymous, because they can link an installation's advertising attribution with its App Store subscription activity.
OAT stores a one-way keyed form of the installation identifier and Apple transaction identifiers. The stored attribution details may include attribution status, campaign, ad group, advertisement and keyword identifiers, placement and conversion information, country or region, app version and capture time. Stored subscription details may include notification and product identifiers, event type and environment, transaction reason, price and currency, offer or trial information, storefront, purchase and expiration dates, and refund or revocation information. OAT validates Apple's signed notifications and stores these selected details, but does not retain the raw attribution token, the original signed notification payload, the original installation identifier or the original transaction identifiers in this reporting database.
OAT uses these records to measure how its Apple Ads campaigns lead to trials and paid subscriptions, account for later renewals and refunds in those reports, and detect missing or duplicate reporting events. The records automatically expire after 400 days. Access to the reports is restricted, and Microsoft Azure provides the hosting, storage and service diagnostics used for this processing. Separate server, gateway and diagnostic records may include ordinary request details such as client IP address, route, time, response status and app version. This Apple measurement does not access Apple's advertising identifier or use the installation identifier to follow activity across other companies' apps or websites.
Meta advertising measurement.
Hatchpedia uses Meta's software development kit to report app installs, first opens and app activations so OAT can measure the effectiveness of its Meta advertisements. Meta may receive the event, an app-specific installation identifier, and related app, device and network information and may process that information under Meta's Privacy Policy and platform controls.
OAT's current integration does not ask the Meta SDK to collect Apple's advertising identifier, automatically log purchases or other app activity, collect metadata for automatic event detection, or collect data for Meta product improvement. It does not send your Hatchpedia email address, account credentials, precise location or purchase details to Meta. These settings limit the data reported, but they do not mean that Meta receives no information or that the activity is outside every legal or platform definition of tracking.
Cookies and website analytics.
Hatchpedia and its service providers use cookies and similar technologies to:
- Keep you signed in and maintain account and security functions.
- Enable website subscription and payment interactions.
- Remember preferences.
- Measure website use and diagnose performance and errors.
Browser settings can block or remove cookies, but essential account or payment features may then stop working. We use Microsoft-hosted services, including Azure infrastructure and Application Insights, to operate the service, store account information and understand service reliability and usage.
When information is disclosed.
We disclose information to providers that help us operate Hatchpedia, including hosting, storage, diagnostics, email, payment and app distribution providers, to Apple for the advertising and subscription measurement described above, and to Meta for the advertising measurement described above. We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect users or the service, investigate fraud or security issues, or complete a business transaction involving OAT. These recipients process information under their own terms or their agreements with us.
OAT does not sell personal information for money. Some privacy laws define "sale," "sharing" or targeted-advertising activity more broadly; Meta advertising measurement may be treated as sharing or tracking under those definitions depending on the circumstances.
Retention, security and your choices.
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide Hatchpedia, maintain business and security records, resolve disputes, enforce agreements and meet legal obligations. The period varies with the kind of information and why it is needed. We use reasonable administrative, technical and organizational safeguards, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.
You can manage mobile permissions in device settings, browser cookies in browser settings, and App Store subscriptions through Apple. You may contact us to ask about, correct or request deletion of information associated with your Hatchpedia account or other identifiers you can provide. We will respond as required by applicable law and may need information sufficient to locate the relevant records, verify your identity or retain information where legally permitted or required.
Children.
Hatchpedia is designed for a general audience of anglers and insect enthusiasts, rather than specifically for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us so we can review and address it.
Changes to this policy.
We may update this policy as Hatchpedia or its providers change. We will post the revised policy here and update the date above.
